HELP REQUESTED WITH RECENT COLDSTREAM MUSIC
I've been attempting to identify the traditional tunes used in some recent marches used by the Coldstream Guards.
I started by listening to samples of 100s of traditional British songs. When my head began to spin out of control, I enlisted the
help of a talented musician to try and match the traditional tunes with the new marches. Below I present my results. I hope
members of this forum can help fill in the melodies I've been unable to identify.
NORTHUMBRIAN AIRS - arr T Sharpe
March begins at 51:10 into the video.
I've identified (in order of appearance)
1. Keep yor feet still! Geordie, hinny* 2. The Lambton Worm 3. Blaydon Races
There is unidentified music between each of the above.
* . Keep yor feet still! Geordie, hinny was written by Joe Wilson and was based on the American song Darling Nelly Gray. Nelly Gray was
itself based on the Liverpool song Maggie May (or vice versa).
There is another arrangement of Northumbrian Airs by Chris Attrill which begins with The Lambton Worm.
No 7 COMPANY G Jones
Sorry I couldn't find an online reference.
1.Keep yor feet still! Geordie, hinny 2. On Ilkley Moor
Followed by lots of unidentified music.
WEST COUNTRY SONGS arr Darren Wolfendale
March begins at 16:07 into video
We first heard this arranngement in a video posted here of a CG Presentation of Colours rehearsal and also in a massed band rehearsal video
posted by TroopingAdmin. A helpful poster to the latter video named the source songs as
1. Trelawny 2. Widecombe Fair
Again lost of mystery melodies.
I have links to some form of each of the traditional source songs and will provide if asked.
Any help will be gratefully appreciated.
